10 Best Wedding Hair Tips

Bun To Watch

Elegant, sophisticated and chic, the plaited bun was a strong feature on the catwalks, as seen at Amanda Wakely, and is the perfect choice for a bride that wants an über-groomed, perfectly-polished look. Want some sparkle? Dot dazzling diamantes around the edge of your bridal bun.

Playful Pony

Love the look of a ponytail but want something that screams 'I do' rather than whispers it? The Blumarine ponytail is just the ticket. Special enough to make you feel gorgeous, but not OTT, and far sexier than a plain-old everyday pony, this look is altar-perfect. Cover your hair band with a thick piece of hair and lightly curl the back with big-barrelled tongs.

Grecian Goddess

If, like us, you fell in love with Sienna Miller's sexy Grecian-hippie vibe at this year's Golden Globe awards (not to mention her stunningly beautiful, and very bridal, Marchesa gown), the wrapped-plait is the lock look for you. Team with a sun-kissed tan and a killer dress and he'll go weak at the altar.

Twenties Twist

One for women who love old-school glam, Twenties-style curls – championed for spring/summer 08 by Viktor and Rolf – make a high-impact aisle profile. Want some Charlton chutzpah? Add a feathered headdress and ensure it's a jazzy affair.

Modern Updo

A classic updo is the best way to show off sexy shoulders and a dress to die for. But traditional doesn't have to mean tired. Take inspiration from the models at Valentino and give your updo the kiss of life with cute curls and a not-too-polished finish. Leave out a couple of face-framing strands at the front to soften the look.

Fifty, Fifty

Don't feel quite 'ready' if your hair's swinging loose, but don't want to go for a traditional updo? Mix the two with a half up, half down look for a modern take on bridal beauty. Use big-barrelled tongs to create up-to-the-minute catwalk curls, then use grips to hold one side of your hair in place at the back. Finish with a generous amount of hairspray and some dazzle 'em diamante pins.

Sexy Sixties

Don't be scared – remember, this is just inspiration. No one's suggesting you should go for a full-on bridal beehive, but a bit of backcombing can create a seriously sexy lock lift. If you don't fancy the slicked-back look that was all over the spring/summer 08 catwalks, but still want to be trendy, opt for some backcombing at the crown to add a funky edge to your chignon, updo or ponytail. Go on, be a sexy Brigitte Bardot bride.

Chic Chignon

A traditional bride should opt for a traditional pleat. Models at Bottega Veneta showed us how the ultimate updo is done. For extra wow factor – if, indeed, it's needed – add some pretty twists to the side as shown. After that? Just add your tiara and prepare to make an awe-inspiring entrance.

Curl Power

Tress to impress! Along with slicked-back updos, long, loose curls were the hot look for summer, so bowl him over with some high-wattage waves and a stack-load of sex appeal. He'll be kissing the bride before he can say 'I do'.

Shabby Chic

Just because formal-fabulous is on most brides' style agenda, doesn't mean the more laidback wife-to-be can't express her feel-free funky side through her hair. A loose, curled bun is fun-loving and less harsh than the more rigid slicked look, but still stand-out special enough for a beautiful, blushing bride.
