So the wait is over at last... we finally have another Royal Wedding on our hands! Following a lengthy 8 year courtship, Prince William and Kate Middleton are to wed in April this year. William proposed to his long term girlfriend with his Mother's (Lady Diana) diamond and sapphire engagement ring during a holiday in Kenya. The engagement had long been speculated about in the media, but on the 17th November 2010 Clarence House delighted millions by announcing the news.
After the announcement, the speculation then turned to where and when the wedding would take place; however this was short lived as William and Kate announced they are to get married at Westminster Abbey on the 29th April, following a very short engagement.
And the wedding frenzy seems to have swept not just this Country but the whole World, with hotels being inundated with bookings from visitors hoping to be part of the occasion. Furthermore, bookings are being extended beyond just the wedding day, with tourists hoping to explore London in additional days before and after the wedding. London is one of the most popular Cities, often being described as cool, classy and cosmopolitan; and so it is not a huge surprise that with these descriptions comes some hefty price tags. But fret not, as there is a simple way to help save you money while travelling around the sights and that is with the help of the taketwobook- a voucher book providing 50% off many attractions, museums, shows and eateries around the Capital.
The wedding is to take place in the Abbey which is located right in the heart of London, next to the Houses of Parliament and is a traditional place of coronation and burial of English Monarchs. The building itself has some stunning architecture, proving itself to be a favourite with photographer enthusiasts and a regular route for the Hairy Goat London Photography Mystery Tour. The ceremony itself will begin at 11am, with Miss Middleton travelling through the Mall, Horse Guard Parade, Whitehall and Parliament Square, arriving at Westminster Abbey by car. Using a car as the transportation method for the Bride is a break from tradition and showcases Kate's wish for a more low-key Royal Wedding. During the ceremony, The Archbishop of Canterbury will marry the couple and after the service William and Kate will travel back to Buckingham Palace. The couple is expected to make the traditional appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony before heading inside. Huge crowds of well-wishers are expected to be gathered outside, all hoping for a very public kiss; reminiscent of the scene between Prince Charles and Princess Diana when they married in 1981. There will then be a reception hosted by the Queen, for guests from the congregation and in the evening the Prince of Wales will host a private dinner.
Prince William and Kate Middleton's marriage is set to be the biggest Royal event since the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Consequently, the Government has designated it a bank holiday; and the timing of the wedding means there will be two 4 day public holidays in succession. The Prime Minister has encouraged this decision because he wants to mark the day as one of national celebration and the public holiday will ensure that most people have the chance to celebrate. And it's not just those who live in the City that are expected to partake in the celebration. London (and England for that matter) will be welcoming thousands of visitors from all over the world hoping to soak up some of the special celebratory atmosphere.
This Royal Wedding weekend provides a wonderful opportunity to really explore London, and visit all that is best about the City; however, this can be very costly. A great way to help save money while visiting London is to use the taketwobook London's 2 for 1 voucher and guidebook. The taketwobook is packed full to bursting with two for one vouchers and ideas for many of the cities famous and must-see museums, galleries and top attractions. The taketwo book also contains 2 for 1 london vouchers for tours around the Capital; and these tours come in many forms, from the conventional bus tour and cruise, photography tour, bicycle tours, jogging and walking tours. 2 for 1 vouchers for loads of restaurants and tearooms can also be found in the book, ensuring you can enjoy some great food or traditional afternoon tea, for half the price.
So with the big day looming closer, you should make sure you have made plans to visit the Capital, and if you haven't already- buy yourself a hat... who knows, you may just get an invite!
